Alive After Five is an opportunity for Club members and friends to relax,
unwind and socialize monthly at area bars, taprooms and pubs. Participants often take
advantage of nearby dinner possibilities to extend the evening.

Norvin
Green Hike
Date: Saturday, May 9, 2009

Location: Weis Ecology Center
Description:
Join the Morris County Ski Club on a challenging 7 mile hike in Norvin Green
Sate Forest. This hike will climb to a number of Norvin Green’s scenic peaks
including “High Point”. There will be some great views on this hike. The
hike should take about 4 ½ to 5 hours to complete including a lunch break.
After the hike we will go to a nearby Bar and Grill (probably Prime 15).
Important Notes:
1. Waterproof hiking boots since there is a significant amount of climbing.
2. Dress in layers as you will warm up.
3. Carry a day pack
4. Bring sufficient water and your lunch.
5. Bring a 2-way radio if you have one.
6. You may want to bring a camera.
7. A trail map will be provided at site.

From Morristown Area
• Route 287 North to exit 55 (Route 511 North)
• Make a right at light and follow 511 North (Ringwood Avenue) 4 miles.
(There are numerous
stores to buy food on Ringwood Avenue.)
• Make a left onto Westbrook Road (across from Skyline Diner) and follow the
signs for Weis
Ecology Center.
• Bear left at the split and then make the second left onto Snake Den Road
(You are still
following signs for the Ecology Center)
• Bear left at the fork and park in the lot just after the purple house. The
lot will be on the right
Note: There is an office and flush toilets at the Weis Ecology Center.

POOL TOURNAMENT - Players
wanted!!
Saturday
May 16th
Join MCSC at ROCKAWAY BILLIARDS for a night of pool starting at 7:00 pm.
$18 per person for 3 hours of tournament play and a hot catered buffet.
The evening is a BYOB (Beer or Wine only) and all bottles and cans must
be removed after the tournament.
Tournament play is handicapped so if you are a less skilled player and you
play a higher skilled player you will be given points. When you are no
longer in the tournament you are still allowed to play on other tables
throughout the remainder of the evening.

Spring Bike Trip

Bike Weekend.

Annapolis is home to the US Naval Academy and a quintessential Revolutionary
War town in the history of the United States. Its historical district is
picturesque, allowing a person to step back in time, and experience the
excitement of the United States of the eighteenth century. If biking is not
your thrill, then there is golfing, sailing, shopping, museums, dining, and
more importantly, the company of others.

Whitewater Rafting
Trip
North Creek, New York

May 1-3, 2009
Join the Morris County Ski Club for a whitewater rafting adventure weekend
along the Indian and Hudson rivers. The trip includes two nights lodging at
the Black Mountain Lodge in North Creek, NY, a day of whitewater rafting (17
miles on river) in class III – IV rapids through the Adirondack Park with
Beaver Creek Outfitters on Saturday that includes all necessary rafting gear
in addition to lunch and dinner. Sunday is open to other area activities
such as hiking, horseback riding, biking or shopping (these optional
activities are not included).
Member Cost: $210 Non-Members: $225 includes:
two nights lodging, rafts, paddles, life jackets, helmets, wetsuits, and
transportation to & from the lodge, an on river lunch, dinner following the
trip, lots of fun & excitement and spectacular scenery.
No previous rafting experience necessary but must be able to swim. They will
break us up into groups of 5-7 people per raft. Each raft will be commanded
by an experienced and certified Beaver Creek Outfitter river guide. Member’s
only sign-up period through the March 24th meeting at which point the trip
will be open to anyone 21 or older.
You will need to bring or you can optionally purchase at the outfitter’s
base:
• Long Underwear: polypropylene, capilene, thermax, micro fleece or like
materials.
• Torso: polar fleece or wool. A waterproof shell is nice.
• Head: wool, fleece, polypropylene, etc.
• Hands & Feet: wool, fleece, polypropylene, etc
• Sunglasses
• Sunblock

Take exit 24 and follow to I-87/I-90 (Northway).
Merge onto I-87 via exit 1N toward Albany Intl Airport/Montreal.
Take exit 23 toward Warrensburg/Diamond Point.
Turn left onto Diamond Point Rd.
Turn slight right onto US-9.
Turn left onto Rt 28.
Turn left onto Rt 8. Hotel is 3.7 miles down the road on the right.

ROCK CLIMBING

DATE: JUNE 13th at 5:30 - 7:30pm
Join the Morris County Ski club for a night of indoor rock climbing at the
NJ ROCK GYM, 373 D Route 46 West, Fairfield, N.J. on June 13th. Experience
indoor rock climbing and bouldering in a fun and safe environment.
Our group will have a ratio of 5:1 student to instructor and a max of 30
participants.
Price for this is $24.00 per person for 2 hours.

If any one is interested in getting a basic belay certification it would be
an additional $16.00.
The belaying class will give you the basic skills to climb at the gym, use
equipment, climbing commands, knot tying, belay set up and belay and
lowering techniques.
The Belaying class has to be 4 people max per instructor and would have to
be set up in advanced
• Wear gym clothes although climbing shoes can be rented at the gym. No
previous climbing experience is needed.
• Afterwards we will go out for something to eat.

MCSC and OCSC Head to the Races
Saturday June 20th 2009
On Saturday June 20th 2009, Morris County Ski Club and Outer Circle Ski Club
members and guests are invited to an evening of harness racing under the
stars at the Meadowlands Racetrack in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
Under festive party tents will enjoy a picnic style buffet dinner in Paddock
Park situated at the homestretch on the ground level of the racetrack. Gates
open at 5:30 PM with food service starting at 6:00 PM and post time for the
first race of the evening set for 7:30 PM.
For
$27.00 each participant will receive admission to the racetrack,
a program, parking (self park is included while valet parking is $5.00)
plus dinner.
The menu will include an extensive all you can eat buffet of Grilled Chicken
* Italian Sausage * Hamburgers / Cheeseburgers * Frankfurters * Corn on the
Cob * Tossed Salad * Baked Beans * Potato Salad * Pickle Spears * Cole Slaw
* Pretzels & Potato Chips * Cookies *Watermelon * Plus Assorted Soft Drinks
and Coffee Service.
Beer / alcoholic beverages will be available at normal track prices inside
at the bar concession areas.

Annual Beach Bike
Ride
Saturday August 8, 2009
Join
the Morris County Ski Club for an event that has grown to be an annual
favorite, our MCSC’s mid-summer beach bike-ride down in Point Pleasant New
Jersey on Saturday August 8, 2009. The two rides, 15 and 35 miles that we
will be offering are perfect for those that want a good time out in the sun,
riding on flat, lightly traveled roads.
Once
again we will start and finish at Point Pleasant, which will provide plenty
of options for post-ride festivities. Sun-bathing, swimming, boardwalk
activities, cocktails and dinner are all within walking distance at this
seaside hot spot, and changing rooms with showers are available (for a
nominal fee). Since we are expecting a large crowd, group dinner
reservations will not be made, but we will meet for afternoon cocktails
either at Martell’s Tiki Bar on the boardwalk or at the Wharfside. Everyone
will then be free to make his or her own dinner and evening plans.
Details:
Bikes and Helmets: Please make sure your bikes are in good
working order, Helmets are required for all bike rides; bring plenty of
water and a spare tube.
The starting Point: will be Risdens’ Beach & Bathhouse,
Ocean Ave. and Trenton Ave., Point Pleasant New Jersey
Meeting Time: 8:30 AM. Bike rides will roll at 9:00AM
Sharp, Cue sheets will be provided for both rides.
Directions: GSP South to Exit 98, to Route 34 South. Take
34 South to Route 35 South. Cross the Brielle Bridge over the Manasquan
River and continue about 0.5 mile to Arnold Ave. Make a left onto Arnold Ave
and go 0.8 miles to Ocean Ave. Make a right onto Ocean River and Risden’s
Beach and Bathhouse is 0.2 miles on the left. You will need to pay to park
your car at Risden’s.
